The Loyola School (TLS) is a preschool and elementary school focused on early childhood education, rooted in a Catholic Jesuit tradition of personal care, learning, and spiritual growth. TLS addresses the holistic development of children: physical, emotional, cognitive, creative, social, behavioral and spiritual.
The Social Worker (SW) is seen as a vital member of the team at the TLS in their provision of social and emotional support to students and families, as well as consultation and partnership with the staff at TLS. It is essential that the SW have strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with the students and families of the TLS, is resourceful and solution-focused in their approach to helping families access resources for their child and understands the development of young children.
The SW will work closely with staff and teachers to identify and provide support for emerging and ongoing concerns. Depending on the needs of the child, the SW will recommend mental health resources outside of school including counseling or educational testing. The SW will also assist with student and parent program activities, as well as advise the Director, Principal and President to enhance and build programming at the TLS that supports the holistic needs of preschool children and their families. The SW will report directly to the Director and Principal.
The SW is a 12-month, full-time, exempt employee with generous leave in the form of paid leave and school breaks. The responsibilities in this job description are not meant to be all-inclusive and it is understood the SW will perform all other duties as required by the Director and Principal.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments of student and family needs, develop intervention plans and monitor progress.
- Provide direct services to students and families, including counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy.
- Meet with families to build relationships, provide case management services, and assist with identifying support for children to meet a wide range of social, emotional and behavioral needs.
- Serve as a member of the admissions team in the interview and screening process.
- Provide parent education programming.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of local community resources. Act as liaison to community organizations, such as ShareBaby.
- Collaborate with families to connect them with appropriate community resources, providing guidance and support through the referral process.
- Coordinate speech and occupational therapy services with outside agencies, parents, teachers and administrators.
- Collaborate with the Academic Support Teacher on the IEP needs of students and liaison with IEP Teams.
- Serve as the liaison for the Parents Association, facilitating communication and collaboration between parents and the school.
- Assist the teachers, Director and Principal with student behavior management and program development.
- Serve as an advisor to the Director and Principal.
- Stay informed about best practices in school social work through professional development.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records in adherence with NASW standards for school social work services.
- Assist with any other jobs necessary to the basic overall health and well-being of the students.
Education and Experience
Required: Active LCSW-C in the State of Maryland
