Elementary School3rd Grade
Third grade marks continued growth in all the language arts such as reading, writing, vocabulary development and oral communication. In third grade children transition from learning to read to reading to learn and it is exciting to bear witness to their discoveries. Math conceptual and computational development moves at a rapid pace as children explore multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and a host of other topics in geometry.
Curriculum
Language Arts
Students continue their use of the Fountas & Pinnell language arts program as well as Magnetic Reading.
The program emphasizes word study, phonics and spelling through the literature texts studied. More non-fiction is incorporated in the daily work of third grade.
Students are taught to read for information and make connections between new knowledge and existing knowledge.
Through the use of high-quality literature and leveled reading books, each students’ achievement can be fostered and measured to maximize their potential.
